Tidy Kiwi's Journey

In Week 4 Room 3 won Tidy Kiwi for having such a tidy cloakbay.

We decided to take Tidy Kiwi for a journey around our school. We then wrote stories about the places we took him. Our over-arching inquiry theme this year is journeys and this made us realise that there are many different types of journeys that we can go on.

Our Web Cam

Room's 1, 2, and 3 have had sooooo many caterpillars, then chrysalises and then butterflies this year! We had a problem though - we wanted to see a butterfly emerge from it's chrysalis but they always seemed to do it at night or on the weekend. The other problem was that it took a long time to watch the process and we don't always have the time to watch. William's Dad, Rob came up with a solution.

Rob was kind enough to set up a web cam in our middle space over the last 2 weeks. He programmed it to take 1 picture each minute or so. We pointed our web cam at the cocoons that were ready to hatch. And then waited.

At the end of the week Rob came in and took away the footage - sure enough there were some pictures of our butterfly hatching. He put them together to make a time-lapse movie for us. We were so amazed at watching it come out. Fantastic! Thanks Rob!
We also had a look at some other timelapse videos that Rob brought in to show us. We really liked the slowed down video of people sneezing and now we are always sure to catch our sneezes in either a tissue or our elbow!

Our Video from the Web Cam - can you see it getting dark? Can you catch the time when it hatches?

Kindy Visit

Last week Room 3 was lucky enough to visit Northcote Kindergarten. We are trying hard this year to rekindle our relationship with the wonderful teachers there and ease the transition of children from Northcote Kindergarten to Northcote Primary School.

We had lots of fun seeing our old friends and teachers. We played on the playground, kicked balls, built at the carpentry table, used the play dough, moved to music inside and generally had a great time. We can't wait till it is our turn to visit again!

Northern Football Federation

On Friday we had the boys, Matt and Chris visited us from Northern Football Federation (formally United Soccer). They took the whole school and taught football skill related games. The children had a blast. They loved every minute of it playing games like green light, red light, shark attack and many more.

Here we are with Rooms 1 and 2 having a whale, or should that be ball, of a time! and Logan was certainly giving Matt a run for his money at Cat and Mouse!

Swimming

On Friday we went for our second swimming session. It was fantastic. First we practiced our Jolly Phonics songs in the pool by singing and moving. Then we moved across the pool like a variety of sea creatures. We were dolphins, sharks, crabs and octopus! After that we got to have some free time with the noodles. We finished our session with a noodle race! We rode our noodles like horses and had a great time.

A big mention to Scarlett this week who got her whole body in the pool!

CONGRATULATIONS SCARLETT! WE ARE SOOOO PROUD OF YOU!
